This is my walking plans page. I will detail some of the walking plans I am making in it. Unfortunately, some of these will never come to fruition due to lack of time, money and fitness.
Welsh 3000s Brecon Beacons 1066 Walk SDW - Eastbourne loop NDW
This started as a vague idea to move on from 2002's trips to the Brecon Beacons into more rugged terrain. South of Scotland, there is no more rugged terrain in Great Britain than Snowdonia. I started off planning to do the 3000s as a week long walk with camping and heavy pack. However, a friend of mine said he'd love to come too, but no camping. He's even not sure about YHs, prefering hotels or B&Bs.
For those that don't know, the Welsh 3000s are the 15 peaks more than 3000 feet tall with over 60 feet of reascent. In metric terms that is 915m with 18.3m of reascent.
The Peaks:

The Plan
The basic plan is:
Sat Drive / Coach to Conwy / Llandudno (270 miles / 6-8 hours), Conwy YH.
Sun Walk to Llandudno Junction Stn (about 2.5km), Train Llandudno Junction to Roman Bridge (10:30 - 56 mins) Walk to Bryn Gwynant YH (10km / 230m)
Mon Bryn Gwynant YH to Pen y Pass YH (via Y Lliwedd 893m) (10km / 860m)
Tue Pen y Pass YH to Nant Peris B&B ? (via Crib Goch, Garnedd Ugain, Snowdon) (13km / 870m scrambling on Crib Goch). Can be shortened by 6km by taking train down to Hebron station???
Wed Nant Peris B&B to Idwal Cottage YH (via Eldir Fawr and Y Garn) (15km / 1450m) - distance / height need checking
Thur Idwal Cottage YH to Idwal Cottage YH (via Glyder Fawr, Glyder Fach, Tryfan) (9km / 870m scrambling on Tryfan and Glyder Fach) - distance / height need checking
Fri Idwal Cottage YH to Rowan YH (aka Rhiw YH) (via last 7 * 3000 mainly ridge walk) (22km / 1350m)
Sat Rowen YH to Conwy YH (9km / 300m). Walk to Conwy Castle & back approx 3km extra
Sun Drive / Coach Conwy / Llandudno to home
This should be an easily achievable plan as it breaks what is often a very long, hard 24 hour challenge walk into four days with two easy days leading in and one at the end. The main problem will be organising and booking the YHs.
This was my original plan for July 2003 and has now become my backup plan. The plan is very simple, drive to Abergavenny or Brecon, take public transport to the far west side of the National Park and walk back via every 2000 foot hill I have not yet climbed (about 10 of them). I plan on camping wild, restocking with food every 2-3 days. This will probably be done alone, although others have expressed an interest in joining me.
1066 Walk - Weekend - February 2003
I have been planning to walk the 1066 Walk (50km around Hastings, East Sussex) for some time. It splits into two easy day walks - Pevensey Bay to Battle and Battle to Rye, so is an obvious weekender. It is mainly low level walking, which is what has stopped me so far, but should be a good walk to get me back going after my knee injury sustained in November 2002 in the Brecon Beacons.
South Downs Way Alfriston to Eastbourne Loop - Day - June 2003
I have been planning to walk both sections of the SDW from Alfriston to Eastbourne as a big loop for some time. Given that it comes in at about 30km, I want to do it later in the year when I have lots of daylight. This is the first section of an eventual plan to walk all of the SDW.
North Downs Way - Days / Weekends - 2003
I have been chipping off bits of the NDW since I started walking again in mid 2001. Now I would like to batter large chunks of the NDW into submission. I have a day walk Farnham to Guildford to do and then a few more days walking east from about Merstham before weekend walks are needed.
