This is my home page. From here you can read about things that may be of interest from details about me to my interests and some of my writing. I have written it mainly as an exercise for me to see if I could do it. However, over the years, some people have appreciated some of my writing, so I have included a lot of it here. I hope I haven't wasted your time.

This is very much an in progress site and will change a lot as I add more details, links and convert word files to html. Come again soon if you see anything you like.

20/04/03 - Added a new section to the walking section to give informatino on walks I have prepared for use with GPS systems after requests on uk.rec.walking.

23/12/02 - Added walking section. A bit skimpy at first, but it will grow.

A little about my interests:

  • Walking - This is now my main hobby. In this section, I review most of my kit and talk about trips / walks I have been on and, more importantly, those I am planning.
  • Motorcycling - This page covers a history of my bikes, my current bike and some thoughts on motorcycling in general.
  • Rugby - I love playing rugby, but at my age (37) and height (5'10") I would have to take it far too seriously to enjoy playing, just to avoid getting hurt. Now I am more of a watcher rather than a doer. This covers my thoughts on the grounds I have been to and other matters (notably the England team).
  • Travel - I love travelling and this page gives some of my opinions of the countries and peoples I have visited.
  • There may be some dreams coming in here like cars, gadgets etc.

A lot of the stuff I've written over the years:

  • Other Bastards - Other humorous writtings in the Bastard mould. Includes the Bastard Bowling Machine From Hell and the Bastard Aikidoka From Hell. Some date from 1992, others more recent, right up to the BAFH, which was mostly written 1999-2000.
  • Real System Managers - I wrote this to explain what I did as a System Manager, but it ended up as more a hommage to System Managers in general. Written in 1992.
  • Cain - Series of short action stories about a character I created who is half-English, half-Japanese. A martial arts expert who is serving in the 22nd SAS Regiment. First episode written in 1999 (currently 12 episodes / 67,000 words).
  • The Joining - Long, and not yet complete, fantasy story based on the idea of Joinings created by David Gemmell in his Drenai books (excellent fantasy books by the way). Story began in 1996 (currently 130 pages / 55,000 words).

As well as the above, I have written two other books. To date, both these are hand-written manuscripts. One day I may type them in.

Schaffer - about a man who is half-American, half-Russian but who was raised in Japan. This is set in contemporary America. In the early episodes, he is a police officer, but later leaves the force. This was started in 1982 and new episodes get written every now and again (totalling something like 200 pages).

Diamantes - set on the world of Diamantes and using some of the ideas of The Lord of the Rings, Dune and Star Wars. This is a fantasy (swords and magic) rather than Science Fiction book. This was begun in 1985 and is not yet complete (about 120 pages so far).

The pages comprising this site are based on a design my wife used in her assignments for a course at the Open University. Okay, okay, I copied them almost exactly. I took the colours, layout, everything. I never claimed to be a web designer.
